Is Meditation Good for Business
As described by Yoga International:
"Meditation is a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from the normal waking state"
Why is this important for business? Because by truly resting the mind, we as business owners are able view problems from a different and fresh perspective. When practiced regularly, answers to potentially serious problems flow easily and regularly.
In western society, problem solving is viewed as a function of our intellect, education, and hard work, which is a valid way of achieving success in business. But as we all know, long hours at the office may lead to financial success, but will likely harm us in the long run. When we spend countless hours working, although commendable, I propose a more balanced approach will not only lead to financial success, but better health and more fulfilling relationships within our families, friends, and colleagues.
As entrepreneurs, we've given life to something that didn't exist before. Owning and running a business should be a joy--should be something we look forward to every day. Our businesses should provide us with peace of mind and financial freedom we all deserve. Unfortunately, owning a business can be our biggest source of fear and stress.
This is where I find Meditation most helpful. My daily morning morning routine includes a 1 hour mediation, breathing exercises, and review of my written intentions for my business, relationships, and finances. I've not only seen a great improvement in my overall health, I've achieved a sense of calm about my business. I know that no matter the problem, answers and solutions become crystal clear when allowed to flow naturally.
For meditation to be effective, we must do the work. Meaning we must have a regular, consistent daily practice. This is no easy task, but it's definitely worth the effort. An easy way to get started is to download a book, visit a few websites, watch a few videos, and eventually go to workshops or classes on the subject. Here are a few resources I've found helpful in getting started:
Try an online class with Dr Joe Dispenza
Attend a class at your local Yoga Studio (this is mine)
For breathing Exercises try the Wim Hof Method
Don't be surprised if you find that even just a few minutes of daily meditation has a tremendous impact on your business. I know it has for mine!
